Why Train with Matt Gilks

Choosing the right goalkeeper coach is about more than just drills. It’s about learning in an environment that understands the position, challenges you appropriately and prepares you for real match situations.

Matt Gilks offers a level of goalkeeper-specific coaching shaped by professional experience, modern performance methods and a genuine understanding of what the position demands at every level of the game.

Professional Experience That Translates to Coaching

Matt has competed at every level of the professional game, including the Premier League and international football. That experience informs how sessions are structured, what is prioritised, and how goalkeepers are prepared for the physical, technical and mental demands of competition.

This isn’t generic coaching - it’s knowledge earned at the highest level and applied practically.

Goalkeeper-Specific Training - Not Adapted Outfield Sessions

Every session is designed exclusively for goalkeepers. From movement patterns and footwork to decision-making and reactions, training reflects the realities of the position rather than repurposed outfield drills.

This ensures goalkeepers develop skills that directly translate into match performance.

Integrated Pitch, Gym & Cognitive Development

Goalkeeping performance is more than shot-stopping. Sessions combine:

  • Pitch-based technical training
  • Gym-based strength and power development
  • Cognitive and reaction training

This integrated approach mirrors professional club environments and supports long-term athletic development.

Small Groups, High-Quality Coaching

Group sizes are deliberately kept small to ensure:

  • Individual attention
  • Meaningful feedback
  • Consistent technical correction

This allows each goalkeeper to progress at their own pace while still benefiting from group-based training.

A Professional Training Environment

Training takes place in a dedicated goalkeeper training facility, designed to support performance, learning and development. With specialist equipment and multiple training zones, sessions are delivered in a controlled, professional environment that prioritises quality and consistency.

Suitable for All Stages of Development

Whether a goalkeeper is just starting out, competing regularly, or looking to refine their performance, training is adapted to age, experience and ability - without compromising standards.

Train like a goalkeeper. Prepare like a professional.
